Quay Partners Investment Philosophy
Private Equity Fund of Funds, Secondary Investments, Co-investments in Australia & New Zealand
Quay Partners Private Equity Investment, Sydney Australia
For each private equity fund of funds that we manage, we seek to develop a core portfolio of commitments to leading private equity and venture capital managers. Around this core we seek to execute secondary transactions and co-investments for our clients in an effort to augment returns. It is through this investment strategy that we have had a successful track record of truncating the j-curve and achieving quicker returns for our clients. At Quay Partners, we believe that we differentiate ourselves through our willingness to be different at the margin.
Our approach to investing new commitments is to work within a balanced allocation strategy across the continuum of investment stages in private equity – from venture capital to large buyouts. Our view is that stable asset allocations provide the best approach to investing in long-term illiquid asset classes with cyclical return profiles such as venture capital and private equity.
Within this balanced framework we have a manager selection discipline based on a bottom-up analysis of the investment market, whereby every institutional manager is assessed comparatively on a number of criteria. We then actively seek to invest with the top three or four managers in each sector. This forces us into a top quartile approach that is the engine for long-term returns in Quay Partners funds.
In addition to our approach to investing new commitments, we also conduct secondary investments and co-investments on an opportunistic basis.
